Kech: A massive protest rally was held today in Turbat against the closure of the Iranian border at Abdui and last night’s crackdown on the ongoing sit-in at the D-Baloch site. The demonstration saw participation from hundreds of men, women and children.
The rally began at the Turbat Press Club and proceeded through Jamia Masjid Road and the streets near Turbat Police Station, concluding at Shaheed Fida Chowk. During the peaceful demonstration, participants strongly demanded the release of those arrested during the crackdown and condemned the government’s actions as a grave violation of fundamental human rights. Protesters raised slogans against the government and local administration.
Participants from various regions of Kech Mand, Tump, Dasht, Buleda and Zamuran joined the rally. Most of them are directly involved in cross-border trade and rely on the Abdui border for their livelihood. Protesters demanded the immediate reopening of the Abdui border and the unconditional release of all detainees.
They emphasized that the border closure has impacted thousands of families whose only source of income is now disrupted. They further stated that state repression has only exacerbated their hardships.
The demonstrators appealed to political and social groups, the business community and ordinary citizens to join their cause, support their legitimate demands, and become their voice.
While the protest remained entirely peaceful, the participants warned that if their demands are not met, they will be forced to expand the scope of their demonstrations.
