Noshki, Balochistan: A public protest erupted on Saturday as residents of Noshki, alongside the family of forcibly disappeared political leader Ghani Baloch, blocked the main Taftan Road at Sarmal. The sit-in is a direct response to what protesters describe as the continued silence and inaction of the state regarding Baloch’s disappearance.
Ghani Baloch, a senior leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has been missing for over a month. Despite repeated appeals, authorities have failed to provide any concrete answers about his whereabouts or the reasons for his disappearance.
According to the protestors, the blockade of the main highway is part of a peaceful yet determined campaign that has been ongoing in various forms over the past month. They warn that the protest will intensify if Ghani Baloch is not recovered and his constitutional rights are not respected.
“This is not just about one person, this is about the rule of law and basic human dignity,” said one participant at the protest. “The state’s silence only deepens our pain.”
The protest organizers have appealed to the people of Noshki, including political activists, human rights defenders, lawyers and citizens from all walks of life, to join the sit-in and raise their voices in unity. They are demanding that if Ghani Baloch is accused of any crime, he should be presented before a court of law in accordance with the Constitution.
They further urged authorities to respond to the peaceful protest instead of ignoring the anguish of the mothers and sisters forced to take to the streets for justice.
The statement concluded with a warning: if Ghani Baloch is not recovered soon, the protests will spread and grow in strength, and the intensity of resistance will escalate.
