BNM’s Foreign Secretary Raises Human Rights Concerns About Balochistan at UNHRC 61st Session

Faheem Baloch at UN sesssion

GENEVA: Faheem Baloch, Foreign Secretary of the Baloch National Movement, addressed the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, highlighting ongoing human rights violations in Balochistan.

During his address, Faheem Baloch expressed deep concern over reports of enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan, emphasizing that families searching for their missing loved ones often face harassment. He referred to Amnesty International’s description of the situation as a “kill and dump policy” and cited reports from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan confirming that disappearances continue.

He also noted that international bodies and countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and members of the European Union such as the Netherlands, have raised similar concerns. UK officials have reported alleged mass graves in Balochistan, while the US annual human rights report documented cases of killings, disappearances, and torture.

Faheem Baloch urged the Council to support an independent investigation, ensure accountability and protect the basic rights of the people of Balochistan, stressing the need for Pakistan to respect international human rights law.

He concluded his address by calling on the UNHRC to act to safeguard fundamental rights and uphold justice for victims and their families in Balochistan.
