Quetta: The ongoing Operation Herof 2 by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the deteriorating security situation in Balochistan, the Punjab government has closed border routes with Balochistan for all types of traffic.

Deputy Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan, Muhammad Usman Khalid, said that all traffic heading towards Balochistan has been halted. He stated that passengers are currently not allowed to travel to Balochistan via Dera Ghazi Khan.

According to the deputy commissioner, inter-provincial border routes including Boata, Rakhi Gaj, and Taunsa–Musa Khel Road have been suspended for all types of traffic, and no vehicle is permitted to travel from Punjab into Balochistan.

It may be recalled that on January 31, the BLA announced the second phase of Operation Herof, launching coordinated attacks early in the morning at 48 different locations across 14 cities in Balochistan. Reports suggested that fighters maintained strong control throughout the day, with information still emerging from several areas indicating ongoing clashes.

During these attacks, dozens of personnel from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and police were taken into custody by Baloch fighters. Reports also indicated that one station house officer (SHO) was killed, while an inspector along with four personnel was arrested .

The coordinated attacks by the BLA have drawn strong criticism from opposition parties and other quarters, accusing the government and security forces of security failures. In response to the situation, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in Balochistan.

Opposition lawmakers have termed the attacks a major security lapse and have demanded the resignation of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, citing alleged administrative failure.

Educational activities have also been affected. The administration of Cadet College Mastung announced that the entrance test scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. According to the college administration, the test will now be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
