TURBAT, BALOCHISTAN: A man was killed and his son forcibly disappeared after Pakistani army personnel opened fire during a raid on their home in the Sangani Sar area of Turbat, the main city of Kech, Balochistan.
According to source, Babar, son of Akbar, a resident of Sangani Sar, was taken into custody by the Pakistani army from a football ground in Absar on Tuesday evening and has since gone missing. His family has demanded his recovery.
family sources said the Pakistani army raided the family’s home the previous night to arrest Babar, who was not present at the time, having gone to the Kuntani area for daily-wage labour. During the raid, Babar’s father, Akbar Haider, saw several individuals scaling the wall of the house and mistook them for thieves.
Family sources say Akbar Haider fired his licensed pistol into the air, prompting Pakistani forces to open fire, with one bullet striking him near the abdomen.
Akbar Haider bled heavily after being shot, but the family says Pakistani army personnel prevented him from being taken to hospital or given medical assistance.
According to the family, after searching the house and carrying out other actions for several hours, the army personnel left the scene by which time Akbar Haider had died from blood loss.
Sources say that after his father’s death, Babar returned home, maintaining that he was innocent and had not engaged in any illegal activity.
The family said that at around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Babar was at the Absar football ground when he was taken into custody by the Pakistani army and moved to an undisclosed location.
Expressing concern over Babar’s detention, the family said he was not involved in any illegal activity and that the army was mistaken about him.
The family has demanded that information about Babar’s whereabouts be provided and that if any allegation exists against him, it be brought forward through due legal process.
