QUETTA: April 9 holds a significant place in the history of the Baloch national liberation movement as a day to honor the memory and sacrifices of key leaders who were martyred in 2009. The Baloch Students Organization (BSO) Azad has issued a statement commemorating “Shuhda-e-Murgaap,” a day dedicated to recalling the unwavering commitment toward the cause of national liberation.

On April 9, 2009, the Baloch Liberation Movement suffered a profound loss with the killing of three prominent figures Waja Ghulam Muhammad, then Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) and a respected intellectual Lala Munir, a leader within BNM and Sher Muhammad, a leader of the Baloch Republican Party (BRP). All three were abducted by the Pakistani army on April 3, 2009 and their mutilated bodies were subsequently found on April 9.

The BSO Azad statement emphasizes that while the loss was deeply felt across the Baloch nation, it also strengthened the resolve and dedication of the liberation movement. Rather than mourning, the community has used this day to solidify its struggle and resilience a vision championed by Shaheed Waja Ghulam Muhammad.

“Shuhda-e-Murgaap is not merely a day of mourning but a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in pursuit of national liberation,” the statement reads. It calls for a renewed, united and more organized struggle to honor the legacy left by these martyrs.

Waja Ghulam Muhammad is remembered for his efforts to institutionalize and mobilize the Baloch national movement, advocating mass participation for the independence of Balochistan. His legacy continues to inspire ongoing efforts toward political and ideological strength in the struggle.

BSO Azad urges all supporters of the cause to preserve this legacy and to carry forward the mission of Shaheed Ghulam Muhammad and the other martyrs of Murgaap with unwavering determination.
