
Quetta: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered a case under anti-terrorism provisions against Balochistan National Party (BNP) Chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, veteran rights activist Mama Qadeer Baloch and dozens of other leaders.
According to the FIR, during a BNP rally held on May 2, 2025, at Shahwani Stadium in Quetta, BNP leaders and other speakers allegedly made “derogatory and hate-filled speeches” against the state.
Those nominated in the case include BNP Senior Vice President and former Balochistan High Court Bar President Sajid Tareen Advocate, BNP Deputy Secretary General Malik Naseer Shahwani, former federal minister and BNP Information Secretary Agha Hassan Baloch Advocate, Ghulam Nabi Marri, Mir Maqbool Lehri, Shakeela Naveed, Jahanzaib Mengal, Sana Baloch, Ali Ahmed Qambarani, Ramzan Baloch, Mama Qadeer, Iqra Baloch, Hooran Baloch, Allama Maqsood Domki, among others.
The FIR invokes several sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), including 27/B, 11X(3), 11W, and 11G.
It is noteworthy that at the rally, BNP leaders had protested against alleged state repression in Balochistan and demanded the recovery of missing Baloch political workers, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other BYC leadership.
Reacting to the development, BNP Senior Vice President Sajid Tareen Advocate said: “Our only crime is raising our voice against oppression in a peaceful manner. Such bogus cases cannot intimidate us. I will be the first to offer my arrest.” He further remarked that a “de facto martial law” was in place in Balochistan.
