Protests across Sindh have entered their third consecutive day against the federal government’s decision to construct six new canals from the Indus River. All major roads leading from Sindh to Punjab remain completely blocked, bringing inter-provincial transport to a halt. Demonstrations have erupted in various cities throughout Sindh, with protestors staging sit-ins on highways.
The Sindh Bar Council and several political parties are leading a central sit-in on the Sukkur Motorway, drawing large crowds. Meanwhile, the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) has called for a complete shutter-down strike across Sindh, which has seen widespread compliance from traders and businesses.
Adding to the disruption, railway lines have also been blocked at multiple points in the province as part of the protest campaign, further intensifying pressure on the federal authorities.
