Mass Protests in Balochistan Against Growing State Violence and Ethnic Genocide

Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch Yakjheti Committee, stated that nearly 200 Baloch people have been forcibly disappeared, and dozens have been extrajudicially killed in the first two months of this year. In response to these atrocities, hundreds of protests, rallies, and sit-ins have already taken place across Balochistan.

She emphasized that at present, relatives of the enforcedly dissappeared individuals are staging sit-ins at four locations in Balochistan. Major highways in the region remain completely blocked, and the entire province is engulfed in protests. Every road, every city and every village affected by state oppression has become a site of resistance through protests and sit-ins.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch further stated that the state’s system has completely failed in Balochistan. In just the past two months, families of enforced disappeared have blocked major highways numerous times, severing Balochistan’s land connection to other regions to express their discontent with the state system. Despite understanding the hardship caused to the public by these roadblocks, the families of the affected individuals have tried every possible avenue court, constitution and press clubs, but received only frustration and further oppression. Now the only option left for them is to paralyze the state system to protest this regime of oppression.

She emphasized that the families of the victims of state repression do not wish to endure the harsh cold and rain, leaving their homes to remain on the streets in distress. Rather, they have been forced into this position due to the state’s atrocities. Instead of blaming these families, every individual should stand in solidarity with their struggle.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch also pointed out that public resistance in Balochistan has intensified. From Quetta to Hub Choki and from Surab to Turbat, the people continue to protest against the state’s brutality. However, instead of addressing the repression and ending the Baloch genocide, the state continues to threaten families with dire consequences and harasses them.

She said that the state fails to understand that the Baloch people are no longer afraid of its oppression. The continuous suffering has erased the fear from their hearts, and now, threats and harassment cannot silence them. Instead, these threats and the use of force will only fuel the resistance further. The Baloch people have transformed their pain into strength, refusing to bow before state repression. The state should stop issuing threats and put an end to the Baloch genocide.
