Baloch National Movement’s Chairman Dr. Naseem Baloch said in a post on Social “X” that “Ustad Wahid Qambar, a veteran Baloch politician and a staunch advocate of resistance, has spent decades fighting for an independent Balochistan. In the 1970s, during his youth, he joined the armed resistance against Pakistan’s occupation, a commitment he has upheld to this day.
He added “Tragically, in July, he was abducted from Kirman, Iran, with the involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and their collaboration with drug mafias. Since his abduction, Ustad Wahid Qambar has been held incommunicado, with no access to legal counsel or family.
His daughter, Mehlab Wahid has revealed that he is under intense pressure to falsely confess that his political struggle is a crime and to express regret for his lifelong commitment to his people’s freedom. This coercion is a blatant violation of his dignity and human rights. Pakistan continues its ongoing policy of silencing political dissent, particularly targeting Baloch leaders, activists, and intellectuals.
The international community must intervene, demanding his immediate release and an end to Pakistan’s enforced disappearances of political leaders and activists advocating for Balochistan’s independence. Pakistan must declare Ustad Wahid Qambar a war prisoner under international law and treat him accordingly.
