Balochi Poet Habiba Peerjan Forcibly Disappeared Again on Eid Eve in Karachi

KARACHI: Balochi poet and writer Habiba Peerjan has reportedly been forcibly disappeared for the second time after being taken from her home in Karachi two days before Eid.

According to family members, on the night of 25 May 2026, personnel believed to be from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Military Intelligence raided her residence in Baldia Town, Karachi. During the late-night operation, security personnel allegedly entered the house, harassed family members, confiscated personal belongings, and forcibly took Habiba Peerjan away.

Her son, Yasir Baloch, was also detained during the raid. Family members say he was blindfolded and interrogated for several hours before being released later that night. Habiba Peerjan, however, remains missing, and her whereabouts are still unknown.

This marks the second enforced disappearance of Habiba Peerjan. She was previously abducted on 19 May 2022 and was released three days later on 22 May 2022.

Habiba Peerjan is widely known in Baloch literary circles as a respected poet whose work carries the voice, grief, and resilience of the Baloch people. Her disappearance on the eve of Eid has caused deep concern among writers, activists, and members of the Baloch community.

Her family and supporters are demanding her immediate and safe recovery and are calling for an end to enforced disappearances carried out under the pretext of national security.

The disappearance of poets, writers, and civilians cannot be justified. Habiba Peerjan must be produced before the law and released immediately.
