Iranian Authorities Detain Lashkar Jhangvi Leader Akram Lahori

Bandar Abbas, Iran: Iranian authorities have apprehended Pakistani national Akram Lahori, along with an associate, in Hormozgan province, confirming the arrest of the leader of the ‘anti-Shia terrorist group Sipah Sahaba.’

The Hormuzgan Police Information Center officially announced the arrest this morning, revealing that based on intelligence information, law enforcement officers detained Akram Lahori and his associate for their involvement in organizing bomb-making training in Pakistan.

According to police reports, Lahori, who was intending to travel to Qeshm Island by land, was apprehended at a coastal intersection.

His accomplice, identified as Muhammad Abrar, son of Majnoon, was captured on February 22 in the village of Pai Pusht in Qeshm.

It is noteworthy that Akram Lahori had previously faced legal action in 2002 when he, along with four accomplices, was arrested. In April 2003, Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Pakistan sentenced three of the accused, including Lahori, to death. Subsequently, the accused filed an appeal in the Sindh High Court, where Justices Afzal Somro and Rahmat Hussain Jafari acquitted them of all charges.

Akram Lahori, a graduate from Lahore, had initially been associated with the banned Sipah Sahaba before establishing Lashkar Jhangvi in 1996 with the support of his colleagues.
