Islamabad: Former senator and prominent Pakistani politician Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has stated that enforced disappearances in Balochistan are an undeniable reality, and that the enforced disappearance and subsequent recovery of Professor Shafiq Zehri is clear evidence of this practice.
In his statement, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said that Shafiq Zehri was forcibly disappeared from Hub Chowki by Pakistani intelligence agencies, and his recovery now proves that enforced disappearances are being carried out at the state level. He added that thousands of people in Balochistan are still forcibly disappeared and urgent, serious measures are needed for their recovery.
Congratulating Shafiq Zehri’s family on his recovery, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said that this incident also proves that the father of Mahzeib Baloch was innocent, and was unjustly targeted.
He further stated that enforced disappearances are equivalent to state and government terrorism, constituting a grave violation of the constitution and fundamental human rights.
The former senator demanded an immediate end to enforced disappearances and called for all missing persons to be brought before the public and reunited with their families. He emphasized that ignoring this issue would have dangerous consequences for both the state and society.
