Kharan: FIR Filed Against Women for Peaceful Protest Over Enforced Disappearances

Balochistan: Police in Kharan have registered a case against multiple individuals, including 13 women, for participating in a peaceful rally organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) against enforced disappearances. The FIR also includes 60 to 70 unidentified individuals.

The rally was held to demand the release of BYC’s central leadership, who are currently under arrest. Protesters peacefully voiced their demands, but the police declared the rally illegal and filed charges against the participants.

According to the FIR, the protesters have been charged with violating state orders, disturbing public peace, and participating in an unlawful assembly.

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance where peaceful protestors have faced state repression. In the past, police have cracked down on similar demonstrations, subjected protestors to violence, and filed FIRs against them. Several BYC leaders have been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance and remain imprisoned in Quetta’s Huda Jail for several months.
