Armed Attack on Akhtar Mengal’s Residence: BNP-M Alleges Death Squads Behind Assault

BNP Mengal - Sardar Akhtar Mengal's House Kot Mengal attacked

QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) has strongly condemned an armed attack on Mengal Kot, the ancestral residence of party chief and former Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, alleging that the assault was carried out by state-backed death squads in an attempt to create fear and instability in Balochistan.

In a statement, the BNP-M central spokesperson said the attack was part of a broader conspiracy to revive an atmosphere of insecurity, unrest, and conflict in the region. According to the party, the attackers faced resistance from local residents and were forced to retreat, while several vehicles at Mengal Kot were damaged during the incident.

The spokesperson held the alleged perpetrators and those providing them support responsible for what the party described as attempts to disrupt Balochistan’s political and social environment.

The BNP-M said that the use of armed groups to spread fear, target political opponents, and suppress political disagreements through violence has no place in Baloch tribal traditions. The party alleged that such groups are being used to create divisions among communities, intensify tribal tensions, and weaken political activities in the province.

Calling the attack a serious threat to political stability, the BNP-M warned that any attempt to reactivate such groups and disturb the province’s peace would face resistance. The party said that political voices cannot be silenced through intimidation and that such actions would not divert attention from the longstanding issues facing Balochistan.

The BNP-M urged the people of Balochistan to remain united against provocation and unrest, and to protect political awareness, social harmony, and traditional values.
