QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: A man shot and killed his wife and four children inside their home in Quetta’s Wahdat Colony before turning the gun on himself, police confirmed on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Asif Ali, a government employee. The bodies of all six victims were transferred to Civil Hospital Quetta for legal formalities.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and began collecting evidence. Investigators confirmed that a formal inquiry has been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The case took a deeply serious turn when it emerged that Asif Ali had recorded a video message before taking his own life. In the footage, Ali directly named government officials, alleging that they had subjected him and his family to prolonged harassment and blackmail circumstances he described as having driven him to this tragic act.

Asif Ali stated in his recorded video that named government officials had been harassing and blackmailing him and his family. Authorities say the video formed the primary basis for the arrests that followed.

The video was reviewed by investigators and shared widely, prompting immediate public outrage and calls for swift action against those named in the footage.

Following the discovery of the video, Balochistan’s so-Called Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti personally directed law enforcement agencies to launch a formal investigation and take immediate action against those named. Acting on those orders, police moved swiftly and arrested several government officials.

“The matter is under review and all relevant institutions have been directed to take every possible step to reach the facts. Two suspects have been taken into custody based on the video statement of the deceased.” Shahid Rand, Adviser to Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti

Shahid Rand, adviser to the Chief Minister, confirmed that the arrests were made directly on the basis of Asif Ali’s video statement. He added that the investigation is being widened further on the basis of forensic evidence, witness statements, and additional findings from the scene.

Police said evidence collection from the scene is complete and that investigators are now examining multiple angles to establish a full picture of what led to the tragedy. Authorities confirmed that further arrests remain possible as the investigation progresses.

No formal charges have been filed against those currently in custody. The incident has sparked widespread shock and outrage across Balochistan, with residents and civil society groups demanding a transparent, thorough, and impartial investigation into the alleged harassment and blackmail that may have driven a man to this devastating act.
