QUETTA: Former Secretary General of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), Advocate Rahim Baloch, has strongly criticized Pakistan’s military and intelligence agencies over the issue of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch individuals.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Rahim Baloch said that the narrative presented by the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies regarding enforced disappearances remains the same “old lie” according to him, was previously promoted during the enforced disappearance and killing of Asadullah Mengal and Ahmed Shah Kurd and accepted by former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto at the time.
He said that even today, Pakistani security forces abduct Baloch individuals from their homes and public places and transfer them to secret detention and torture centers, where they are subjected to abuse and kept missing for days, months, and in some cases, years.
Despite this, Rahim Baloch said, the Director General of ISPR continues to claim that missing Baloch individuals are not in the custody of security forces but are instead in the mountains or across borders in Afghanistan or Iran.
He further said that the government, parliament, judiciary, and what he described as a “compromised media” work to present this narrative as truth, while the public in Punjab, he claimed, accepts it without questioning.
