The harassment incident involving female students at Bolan Medical College is extremely shameful: BSAC

Quetta: The central spokesperson of the Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC), in a statement, said that the harassment incident involving female students at Bolan Medical College (BMC) Quetta is extremely shameful and a violation of Baloch cultural traditions. The organisation not only condemns the incident but also firmly rejects such acts while demanding immediate action against all those involved.

According to BSAC, giving unchecked power and excessive authority to administrations and certain faculty members in educational institutions encourages such behaviour. “Our national culture not only prevents us from engaging in any inhumane or immoral act, but it also discourages such disgraceful mindsets,” the statement said. “Such unethical behaviour at BMC not only violates our traditions but inflicts irreparable harm on the affected students.”

The spokesperson said that educational institutions in Balochistan have long been held hostage by various elements, making daily student life increasingly difficult. Non-traditional and inhumane incidents occur frequently on campuses. Students face profiling, harassment and multiple tactics that obstruct their education. Such incidents are now becoming routine, including harassment during examinations and threats of failing students. “Educational institutions have begun to resemble centres of harassment more than centres of learning, with new and unacceptable incidents emerging almost every day,” the spokesperson added.

The statement recalled that some time ago, at the University of Balochistan Quetta’s largest educational institution students were harassed through CCTV cameras, forcing several female students to abandon their studies. “Students continue to suffer the consequences of that scandal even today,” the spokesperson noted.

The spokesperson further said, “We believe such incidents leave a dark stain on our traditions one that remains even after many years. Whenever such an incident occurs, the government forms an inquiry committee to deceive and silence students. But with time, even more shameful actions come to light. If the University of Balochistan scandal had been investigated transparently and all those involved punished strictly, this serious incident at BMC would not have occurred today.” The statement added that although this may be the first incident of its kind at Bolan Medical College, it has taken place at a time when the institution is effectively held hostage by certain influential individuals who believe they will face no accountability for their actions.

The BSAC statement concluded, “We strongly condemn this immoral act. We stand with the affected female students and all victims of harassment, and we demand that the government identify every individual involved in such incidents and ensure that they are held accountable.”
