Kabul: The spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, has said that Afghans will never allow their land to be handed over to any foreign power under any circumstances.
In an online interview with the British TV channel Sky News, Mujahid stated, “We will not hand over the Bagram Airbase to the United States under any circumstances.”
He reiterated that Afghans would not permit their soil to be used or surrendered to anyone.
Mujahid also revealed that discussions had taken place with the United States regarding the reopening of embassies in Kabul and Washington. He added that several countries, including Russia, had informally recognized the Taliban government, though no official recognition had yet been granted.
When asked about girls’ education, Zabihullah Mujahid said that he could not make any promises on the matter.
It is worth noting that in 2021, following the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, the United States handed over the Bagram Airbase to Afghan authorities after nearly two decades of control. However, former U.S. President Donald Trump has since announced his intention to reclaim the airbase and the weapons left behind during the withdrawal, warning of “serious consequences.”
