“A Soldier of National Freedom”: BNM Pays Tribute to Slain Member Zubair Baloch

Paris: Chairman of the Baloch National Movement, Dr. Naseem Baloch, on Friday strongly condemned the killing of the young leader, Chairman Zubair Baloch, at the hands of Pakistani forces.

He described the late Zubair as a committed political activist, a defender of human rights and a powerful voice for the identity, survival and freedom of the Baloch nation. Beloved for his principled stance and courageous voice in student and public politics, Zubair Baloch rejected parliamentary remedies as ineffective for securing rights and instead embraced ideological politics. Wherever it was difficult, even dangerous, to speak out, Zubair’s fearless voice could be heard. That is why people across Balochistan’s political spectrum are condemning his killing and denouncing Pakistani repression.

Dr. Naseem explained that the faction of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) with which Zubair Baloch had been associated traditionally fed into a parliamentary party: student activists, after leaving student politics, typically joined that parliamentary formation and followed its path. Zubair, however, broke with that tradition. Rather than joining a parliamentary party, he reached out to the leadership of the BNM and committed himself to an ideological struggle, a commitment he maintained until his last breath. His wish was that, upon his death, whether by natural causes or martyrdom, the nation should know that “Zubair Baloch was a soldier of national freedom and his life was dedicated to Baloch liberation and service to his people.”

Dr. Naseem further emphasized that publicly affiliating with a revolutionary, pro-freedom party like the BNM has been made nearly impossible in Pakistan. Once a member’s identity is exposed, the Pakistani Army does not hesitate to kill them. “Killing political activists has become a routine task for the Pakistani military,” he said.

The chairman noted that although Zubair tried to keep his affiliation hidden in accordance with party policy, his actions reflected his commitment, ultimately making him a target for his dedication to Baloch rights.
It is pertinent to mention that on 24 September 2025, Pakistani forces surrounded and raided the home of former BSO leader and practicing advocate Zubair Baloch. During the heavy gunfire, Zubair and his friend Nisar were martyred.

“In today’s Balochistan, concepts like the sanctity of home and family no longer hold,” Dr. Naseem added. “When the army raids a house, it often results in unlawful abductions, killings and arson against residents sometimes all three. That is exactly what happened to Zubair: state forces attacked his home and killed him.”
He Concluded, “We take pride in the fact that Zubair Baloch chose resistance over silence or compromise. He devoted his life to activist struggle and to speaking truth to power. Zubair was not only a respected leader but also a compassionate member of our party. The Baloch National Movement reaffirms its commitment that his blood will not be spilled in vain. We urge the international community, human rights organizations, and media outlets not to remain silent over the killing of peaceful leaders like Zubair Baloch, and to hold the Pakistani military accountable for its crimes”.
