The Martyr Who Became the Revolution: Blood That Built Our Identity

Writer: Dodaa Baloch

Across the globe, wherever the flame of the struggle for freedom has been kindled, thousands of patriots have offered their lives and possessions, staining the pages of history with their blood. These sacrifices are not mere tales, but a profound message: the pursuit of freedom demands unwavering resolve, courage, and an indomitable spirit. The Baloch national movement is one such sacred struggle, nourished by the blood of countless warriors. With my own eyes, I have witnessed many such noble souls part ways on this path, their faces never betraying a trace of despair or fear. These martyrs are beacons for the Baloch nation, illuminating the path to freedom for every coming generation.

Among these great martyrs was Zahid Sumalani, also known as Meeral Baloch, whom I had the privilege of knowing closely for a few months. He was a figure whose cheerful demeanor, quiet nature, ever-present smile, and impeccable morals set him apart. Meeral was not only a fearless warrior of the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), but also a personality whose simplicity and sincerity won every heart. His silence carried profound wisdom, and his smile radiated a hope that lifted the spirits of his comrades even in the darkest of times. He was a true Sarmachar, one who dedicated every moment of his life to the cause of his nation’s freedom.

In my lifetime, I have seen my brother, relatives, and friends sacrifice themselves on this sacred path of struggle. I have witnessed countless friends and fellow sarmachars who, with their laughter, bravery, and ideology, inspired everyone around them only to part from us forever. Their departure has left deep wounds in our hearts, yet their sacrifices have fortified our resolve. Meeru was one among them, whose smile and quiet nature never ceased to inspire me. His character was a guiding example for anyone who wishes to tread this path. His humility and moral values made him a great human being—equally brave and noble on the battlefield and in everyday life.

On May 16, 2025, in the Jorkin area of Kharan, during a critical organizational mission of the Balochistan Liberation Front, Meeral Baloch faced the enemy with unparalleled courage. In that encounter, he drank the cup of martyrdom, leaving the Baloch nation bereft of a great son. His martyrdom dealt a profound blow to the movement, but his blood further ignited the flame of freedom. The sacrifices of Meeral Baloch, my relatives, and countless other martyrs have proven that the Baloch nation will spare no sacrifice in its quest for self-determination. Their struggle is a saga that inspires us in every moment of hardship.

I have known many such friends and comrades who walked with us, laughed with us, and dreamed with us. They may have parted from us, but their memories remain eternally alive in our hearts. Every word they spoke, every smile they shared, and every moment we spent together is a priceless treasure. Meeru’s smile, his silence, and his ideology are a guiding light that will show us the way through every adversity. We pledge to continue this struggle to fulfill the dreams of Meeral Baloch, our relatives, and all other martyrs. Their sacrifices are a fire in our hearts that will never be extinguished.

These martyrs are not mere names but symbols of a great ideology. Their struggle has taught us that the path to freedom is arduous but not impossible. We have seen with our own eyes how these sarmachars stood firm in their beliefs, offering their lives without hesitation. Their bravery, passion, and everlasting sacrifices are a profound lesson for us all. We will follow in their footsteps, continuing this struggle so that every drop of their blood becomes a guiding force on the Baloch nation’s path to freedom.

The Baloch national movement stands as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of a people who refuse to bow to oppression. The sacrifices of Meeral Baloch and countless others have woven a narrative of resilience and hope that resonates across generations. Their lives were not lost but transformed into an eternal call for justice and liberty. As we mourn their loss, we also celebrate their legacy, vowing to carry their vision forward. Their blood has sown the seeds of freedom, and we, the living, are duty-bound to nurture those seeds until the dream of a free Balochistan is realized.
