Protest demonstrations continue across Balochistan in response to the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a central leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), along with other activists. As part of this ongoing movement, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) organized a protest rally in Kalat on Sunday, following a nationwide call from its central leadership.
The rally was led by BNP Kalat district president Mir Qadir Bakhsh Mengal and witnessed participation from a large number of citizens, party workers, lawyers, and civil society members. Protesters marched through various streets of the city before holding a demonstration and public gathering.
Addressing the gathering, BNP leaders condemned the arrests of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebow Baloch, and other BYC members, calling them unlawful and politically motivated. They stated that while enforced disappearances previously targeted only young and elderly men, the state has now begun detaining women under repressive laws such as the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The speakers emphasized that Baloch women have become a powerful voice against state oppression, and the authorities are now resorting to arrests in an attempt to silence them. They demanded the immediate release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and all detained BYC leaders and activists.
It is worth noting that the Balochistan National Party had earlier staged a 20-day sit-in protest at Lak Pass in Mastung, demanding the release of the detained female BYC leaders.
