Karachi: The family of Sarfaraz Baloch, a young man from the Mauripur area of Karachi, held a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, demanding his immediate and safe recovery after 45 days of enforced disappearance.
Speaking to the media, Sarfaraz’s sister, Hani Baloch, revealed that her brother was enforcedly disappeared by plainclothes personnel on February 26, 2025, from outside Burhani Hospital. “He had come to care for our ailing uncle. As he stepped out to get food, a group of men forcibly pushed him into a vehicle and drove off,” she said, adding that local shopkeepers witnessed the incident.
Hani Baloch described her brother as a peaceful and responsible citizen with no links to any unlawful activity. “We have spent Ramadan and Eid in mourning. Our home has become a place of sorrow. My mother hasn’t slept, our prayers have turned into cries and the whole family is shattered,” she told reporters.
Questioning the silence of the state, judiciary and human rights organizations, she asked, “If there are any allegations against Sarfaraz, why isn’t he being presented in court? Doesn’t a sister have the right to know her brother is safe? Doesn’t a mother have the right to embrace her son again?”
The family appealed to judicial authorities, state institutions and national and international human rights organizations to intervene and ensure Sarfaraz’s safe return.
