Quetta: Nadia Baloch, sister of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, has raised serious concerns over her deteriorating health and the continued denial of her legal rights as a prisoner. In a statement on social media, she revealed that despite a High Court order permitting family visits, jail authorities only allowed her and their mother to speak with Dr. Mahrang over the phone, separated by a thick glass wall, after an exhausting eight-hour wait.
According to Nadia Baloch, the prison is undergoing significant administrative changes, with new staff being brought in and the jail superintendent already transferred. Reports indicate that intelligence agencies have taken full control of the facility, installing surveillance cameras throughout the premises. A separate, fully monitored meeting room is also being set up, equipped with cameras and microphones.
The most alarming concern remains Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s health. She has been suffering from severe food poisoning for the past three days, with her condition worsening overnight. Despite repeated requests, a proper medical examination has not been conducted. A junior doctor provided a brief check-up, which her family deemed insufficient. Nadia Baloch reported that her sister appeared extremely weak and fragile, raising fears that her condition is more serious than acknowledged by prison authorities.
The family has demanded that an independent medical board of experienced doctors be allowed to assess her health immediately. They have also urged civil society, the media, and the legal community to intervene, ensuring the enforcement of court orders and Dr. Mahrang’s right to proper medical care and justice.
Nadia Baloch has also appealed to international human rights organizations, including the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Amnesty International South Asia, Front Line Defenders, UN Human Rights, and PEN Norway, as well as media organizations , urging them to take immediate action.
