GENEVA: A delegation of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), led by Chairman Dr Naseem Baloch, met the chair of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances in Geneva and presented documents on alleged rights abuses in Balochistan.
The delegation met Grażyna Baranowska, the working group’s Chair-Rapporteur and handed over a dossier on enforced disappearances along with the latest six-month human rights report from Paank, which BNM describes as its human rights wing, according to a BNM statement.
Jamal Baloch, who represented Paank at the meeting, said the report prepared by his team highlights enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan. In a post on X, he said the two sides had “a very productive exchange of talks”.
BNM leaders told UN officials that enforced disappearances in Balochistan had devastated many families, the statement said. They accused Pakistan of pursuing a policy of enforced disappearances.
The meeting is part of a three-day BNM campaign in Geneva that begins on 24 September with the group’s 12th Balochistan International Conference at the Geneva Press Club. The programme also includes a photo exhibition, protests, a rally and meetings with international organisations.
During the UN General Assembly session, BNM plans a digital truck advertising campaign in New York and a protest outside UN Headquarters.
A BNM spokesperson said the group’s international advocacy had put the Balochistan issue before global institutions. The spokesperson said the delegation had submitted documented evidence rather than verbal accounts and urged UN mechanisms to push for accountability instead of relying on Pakistan’s official position.
