QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: The bodies of four people, including a security officer and a police constable, have been recovered from the Shaban hilly area of Harnai, near Quetta. Officials say all four were abducted by armed men before being shot dead.
Police took custody of the bodies and moved them to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta, where they were identified as Inspector Zubair Ahmed Shahwani of the Airport Security Force (ASF), Syed Khalilur Rehman, a former Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official and resident of Quetta’s Sheikh Manda area, Muhammad Sadiq Panezai, a retired army havildar from Ziarat; and Fareedullah Kakar, a constable with Ziarat police.
According to police, Inspector Shahwani was a resident of Quetta’s Jinnah Town area. His father had registered a case regarding his disappearance at the Jinnah Town police station on June 24, stating that his son was posted at Islamabad Airport and had come to Quetta on a month’s leave. According to the complaint, Shahwani left home on the afternoon of June 21 along with a friend, Syed Khalilur Rehman, and had been missing since then.
Police said the two men were abducted on June 21 and taken to the hilly area where their bodies were later found. Constable Fareedullah Kakar, a resident of Ziarat, was posted at Mangi police station and was abducted by unidentified men while on his way home from duty. Muhammad Sadiq Panezai, also from Ziarat, was reported to have been abducted separately by unidentified individuals.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the killings, and police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
