KARACHI, SINDH: The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has expressed its strongest condemnation of the life imprisonment sentence reportedly handed down to prominent Baloch human rights activist Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sagbatullah Baloch by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan.
According to reports, Dr. Mahrang Baloch and another Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader were sentenced in connection with a 2024 protest case.
JSFM stated that it believes the continued targeting of political activists, human rights defenders, and peaceful campaigners represents a dangerous assault on democratic values, freedom of expression, and the right of oppressed nations to raise their voices against injustice.
“The imprisonment of Dr. Mahrang Baloch is a tragic day for human rights and justice. Whether in Sindh, Balochistan, or elsewhere, the criminalization of peaceful political activism only deepens mistrust and suffering. Dr. Mahrang Baloch has become a symbol of resistance against enforced disappearances, human rights violations, and state repression. Silencing such voices through imprisonment will not erase the legitimate grievances of the Baloch people,” JSFM said.
“JSFM stands firmly alongside Dr. Mahrang Baloch, her family, and all those struggling peacefully for justice, dignity, and human rights. We reject the use of coercive measures against activists and call for respect for international human rights standards and fundamental freedoms,” the movement added.
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom, justice, human dignity, and the right of all nations to live without fear, oppression, and political persecution.
