International Silence Fuels Escalation of Pakistan’s Military Operations in Balochistan: BNM

PARIS: The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has alleged that continued silence from the international community is contributing to an escalation of Pakistan’s military operations in Balochistan, where it claims widespread human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and attacks on civilian areas, are taking place.

In a statement issued by the party’s central spokesperson, BNM said the ongoing security operations across multiple districts have resulted in at least 17 deaths in alleged extrajudicial incidents between May 31 and June 2, 2026. The claims could not be independently verified.

The group further alleged that enforced disappearances are occurring on a daily basis in several districts, including Mastung, Noshki, Zehri, Khuzdar, Kech, and Gwadar, alongside reports of helicopter activity, shelling, and communication blackouts in affected areas.

Killings and Disappearances in Zehri

BNM highlighted a major incident in the Zehri area of Khuzdar district, where it said Pakistani military forces carried out a raid in the Bulbul locality on June 2.

According to the statement, political activist Khalil Ahmed Musiyani was shot during the operation, detained in a critical condition, and later killed in custody. The group also alleged that several individuals, including Zehri Khan Musiyani, Shakar Khan, Sanaullah Musiyani, Umeed Ali Khan, Dost Muhammad, and Irshad Ahmed, were forcibly disappeared during the same raid.

Reports of Shelling and Civilian Casualties

The statement also cited additional incidents, including the alleged killing of Ghulam Jan Sumalani, a driver, during military shelling in Kardagap, Mastung on May 31. It further claimed that helicopter shelling targeted civilian areas in Kadd Umrani in the Kadd Kocha region on June 1, though casualty figures remain unclear due to restricted communications.

BNM said communication blackouts across multiple districts have severely limited independent verification of such incidents.

Widespread Military Operations

The group described the situation as part of a broader, long-standing pattern of military operations in Balochistan, alleging that villages across districts including Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Awaran, Khuzdar, Panjgur, Kech, and Gwadar have been repeatedly affected, leading to displacement of civilians.

BNM also alleged that recent military pressure in the Panwan area of Jiwani tehsil in Gwadar district has forced families to flee toward areas it referred to as Western Balochistan, where they are reportedly facing economic hardship and disruption of education.

Call for International Attention

The BNM spokesperson urged the international community to break its silence, arguing that the lack of global response is enabling the escalation of military operations in Balochistan.

The statement called for urgent international attention to the situation and reiterated demands for recognition of the region as conflict-affected, along with the right to self-determination.
