PARIS: Dr. Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), has stated that collective punishment constitutes a violation of international law under international humanitarian frameworks, including the Geneva Conventions.
He shared his remarks on the social media platform X, where he highlighted concerns regarding practices he described as collective punishment and called attention to their implications under international law.
According to Dr. Naseem Baloch, collective punishment refers to penalizing a group of people for actions they did not individually commit. He noted that such practices are prohibited under international humanitarian law, particularly under provisions of the Geneva Conventions, which safeguard civilians and protect them from collective reprisals.
The statement was made as part of his broader commentary on human rights issues, urging international attention toward the situation in Balochistan.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have previously raised concerns in various contexts regarding the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian standards in conflict-affected regions.
