QUETTA: Sholan Baloch, Central Spokesperson of the Baloch Students Organization Azad, has accused the Pakistani state of being involved in “cultural genocide” against the Baloch nation, ahead of Baloch Cultural Day observed on March 2.

In a statement marking the occasion, He said the Baloch nation celebrates Baloch Cultural Day with respect and pride across Balochistan and in different parts of the world. Describing the Baloch as an ancient nation that has lived on its homeland for centuries and the community possesses a distinct national culture that forms a strong identity globally.

According to the statement, Baloch culture often referred to as “Balochiyat” encompasses a complete social code governing ways of life, traditions and societal structure. He said that adherence to these values has enabled the Baloch people to preserve their social fabric and maintain a civilized and organized society over generations.

Sholan Baloch emphasized that culture is not limited to dress or outward customs but is deeply connected to collective behavior, psychology and historical consciousness. He stated that elements such as resistance against oppression, love for the homeland, hospitality, social solidarity and mutual support are core components of Baloch cultural identity.

Referring to historical and contemporary figures regarded as symbols of resistance, he said their sacrifices have strengthened the cultural and national spirit of the Baloch people.

The spokesperson said that the Pakistani state is attempting to undermine the Baloch language, traditions, social norms and identity and to impose an artificial culture. He claimed that similar policies have historically been adopted by occupying powers but maintained that such efforts have failed in the past.

On the occasion of March 2, He paid tribute to the resilience of the Baloch people in preserving their culture despite political challenges. He also urged Baloch youth to uphold their cultural heritage and view it as essential to their collective survival.
