State Repression in Balochistan Amounting to Genocide: Says BSO Spokesperson

BSO

Quetta: The spokesperson of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has said that ongoing state repression and brutality in Balochistan is manifesting in a significant rise in violence against oppressed communities.

In a statement, the BSO spokesperson said that colonial-style policies in Balochistan have pushed Baloch society toward collective devastation. He claimed that military operations, enforced disappearances of students, the recovery of mutilated bodies and the imposition of collective punishment have created an atmosphere in which no family or locality feels secure.

The spokesperson expressed concern over an increase in actions aimed at suppressing peaceful and democratic voices across Balochistan. He said that such measures include the enforcement of stringent laws, registration of cases, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. He characterized these developments as part of a systematic campaign against the Baloch nation.

Referring specifically to recent cases involving Baloch students, the statement claimed that the reported rise in enforced disappearances is an attempt to instill fear among youth. However, he added that Baloch youth have continued political resistance despite the pressures, and said that they have become a primary target of state policies.

The spokesperson further said that incidents such as enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, militarization of educational institutions, targeted killings, restrictions on political activism, and the dumping of bodies have seen an increase across Balochistan.

In conclusion, the BSO called on progressive political parties, student organizations, civil society groups, labor unions and lawyers’ bodies across the country to take notice of what it described as severe restrictions on political activity and an undeclared form of martial law in Balochistan. The organization urged them to fulfill what it termed their political and moral responsibility in raising their voices against the situation.
