QUETTA: A series of enforced disappearances and raids carried out by Pakistani security forces in various districts of Balochistan, including Nushki, Panjgur, Surab and Kharan over the past week.

In Nushki, security forces reportedly conducted operations in the villages of Kili Mengal and Qadirabad. During these operations, two elderly men, Hafiz Abdul Sattar Mengal of Qadirabad and Mir Abdur Razzaq Badini, were taken into custody and transferred to an undisclosed location. According to local sources, homes were searched and residents were subjected to beatings.

It is reported that Mir Abdur Razzaq Badini’s son, Fareed Badini, had previously been killed in a staged encounter by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Kharan in October 2022. Fareed had been forcibly disappeared from Quetta on September 28, 2022.

In Panjgur, Pakistani forces reportedly carried out house-to-house operations in the Pul Abad area in recent days. Several individuals were taken into custody during these raids. Two of the detained have been identified as Anayat and Rashid, while the identities of the remaining individuals remain unknown. Witnesses reported that homes were searched and several residents were taken to unknown locations.

Meanwhile, in Surab, two young men from Marap 26-year-old Taimoor, son of Imam Bakhsh, and 31-year-old Murtaza, son of Yahya were reportedly detained by the Frontier Corps (FC) near the RCD Road checkpoint on February 9 at around 5 PM and forcibly disappeared.

Local sources also reported that in Kharan, Pakistani forces, assisted by local informants, carried out aggressive operations in several mountainous areas, including Jorkin, Lando, and Helmerg. During these operations, three men Ghulam Allah, son of Khair Muhammad, Ali Nawaz, son of Allah Bakhsh and Shah Dost, son of Noor were taken into custody and remain missing.

Sources say the forces carried out extensive property destruction, including the use of mortar shells on homes in Helmerg and Jorkin, burning rooms and personal belongings, and setting fire to vehicles and motorcycles. Reports also indicate that both security personnel and local informants looted homes and shops, seizing cash, gold, and personal items, including women’s clothing. Nearly forty motorcycles were reportedly taken during the raids.

Human rights advocates have expressed concern over the recurring incidents of enforced disappearances, violent raids, and property destruction, emphasizing the impact on civilian communities in the region.
