DUKI: A coal miner died of suffocation after inhaling poisonous gas inside a local coal mine in Duki.

According to reports, the incident occurred at a coal mine located about 8 kilometers west of Duki, where toxic gas filled the mine during excavation work. The deceased miner was identified as Abdul Rasheed, son of Abdul Ghafoor, belonging to the Achakzai tribe and a resident of Afghanistan. He died on the spot.

Local miners retrieved the body from inside the mine through self-help and shifted it to a hospital. After necessary medico-legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family and sent to Afghanistan.

It is worth mentioning that accidents related to coal mining are not new in Balochistan. The Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation, in its annual report, revealed that 89 miners lost their lives in various coal mine accidents in Balochistan during 2025.
