Former Secretary General of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), Advocate Raheem Baloch, in a statement on social media platform X regarding the enforced disappearance of Sardar Ali Mohammad Qalandrani’s son, Mir Yousuf Qalandrani, said that Sardar Ali Mohammad Qalandrani is a man of good character. He has been actively resolving tribal and personal disputes in the area and unlike many other tribal leaders, is known for his compassionate leadership. However, For the past two decades, his family has been facing state oppression.
He said that on 18 February 2011, the army and intelligence agencies surrounded Totak village, violated the sanctity of homes and private lives and killed two relatives Naeem (son of Mir Mohammad Raheem Qalandrani, brother-in-law of Sardar Ali Mohammad Qalandrani) and Yahya (son of Abdul Hakeem Qalandrani). More than two dozen relatives, including Sardar Sahib’s elderly father-in-law, Mir Mohammad Raheem Qalandrani, were abducted and remain missing to this day. Sardar Sahib’s three sons — Mir Ateeq Qalandrani, Mir Khalil Qalandrani and Mir Waseem Qalandrani have also been missing since 2011.
According to Raheem Baloch, after the Tootak operation, the Pakistani army and Shafiq Mengal established an illegal private detention center in Totak, which was shut down in 2014. Only two or three days after it was closed, mass graves were discovered in the Tootak.
He added that now, on 17 August 2025, another son of Sardar Ali Mohammad Qalandrani, Mir Yousuf Qalandrani, was abducted and disappeared from Karachi by state agencies. Although politically their paths are different, since Sardar Ali Mohammad Qalandrani was once associated with pro-Islamabad parties (PML-N and PML-Q) and today both he and his abducted son Mir Yousuf are active with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam — still, his son has been forcibly disappeared.
Advocate Raheem Baloch said that the disappearance of Mir Yousuf Qalandrani proves false the state’s claim that missing persons are linked to armed groups fighting for Baloch independence. Instead, it shows that the occupying Pakistani army and other security agencies are targeting every segment of the Baloch nation regardless of their political ideology or party affiliation.
