The National Democratic Party (NDP) has strongly condemned what it describes as state-sponsored political repression against those raising their voices for the recovery of missing persons in Balochistan. In a statement issued to the media, the party expressed grave concern over the continued illegal detention of members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee and other activists, stating that peaceful campaigners are being crushed through the use of brute force.
The statement highlighted that many individuals have been held for months without due process. Initially detained under the draconian law known as the “3 MPO” (Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance) for three months, their detentions were extended repeatedly. Even when the legality of these detentions was challenged in court, the cases were dismissed. Once the maximum permissible extension under the MPO was exhausted, authorities abruptly shifted the detainees to anti-terrorism courts, where they were remanded for ten days. Despite the expiry of that remand period, no investigation report was submitted, and the remand has now been extended by another 15 days without evidence or legal justification.
“This pattern of prolonged detention without trial is a clear case of political victimization,” the statement read. “It is not only a blatant violation of fundamental human rights but also a mockery of justice and the rule of law.”
The NDP also condemned the restrictions placed on peaceful protest in Islamabad. According to the statement, mothers, sisters and daughters of missing persons are being denied the basic right to demonstrate peacefully. They are not even allowed to set up tents or shelter themselves from the rain. “This behavior exposes the bitter truth that the state treats Baloch citizens as third-class people,” the party asserted. “Their loved ones have been taken, and no one is willing to listen to their cries.”
For the past three days, Baloch mothers have been holding a sit-in in front of the Islamabad Press Club, yet mainstream media has completely ignored their protest. “By remaining silent and echoing the government’s narrative, the media has become complicit in the state’s repression,” the NDP stated.
The statement concluded by warning that this continued suppression is pushing Balochistan and its people further into isolation and despair. “By refusing to hear these voices or offer justice, the federal government is sending a dangerous message to the world, that even peaceful political struggle and constitutional expression are no longer possible for the Baloch.
