QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Multiple Attacks in Chaghi and Lasbela: Convoys, Security Forces Targeted; Police Sub-Inspector Abducted, DSP Injured
Unidentified armed men carried out a series of attacks in Balochistan’s Chagai and Lasbela districts on Monday, targeting a convoy of trade vehicles and its security escort, as well as a police checkpoint, officials and local sources said. A police sub-inspector was abducted and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was among those injured in the attacks.
According to sources, the assault began near Yak Mach in Chagai district, where unidentified attackers opened fire on a convoy of trade vehicles arriving from the Taftan border, damaging several vehicles. The gunmen also targeted security forces’ vehicles with rockets and other weapons, with reports indicating significant casualties among personnel.
The same convoy came under attack at three further locations. Armed men briefly took control of the highway near Dalbandin’s Nokchah area, where they continued conducting snap checks, set one large vehicle on fire and burst the tyres of another. At Chaar Sar, vehicles and their security escort were attacked, leaving a DSP and one other police official injured. At Chahtar, armed men targeted two separate convoys of vehicles belonging to the Saindak Project as well as trade vehicles damaging multiple vehicles and seizing control of one. During these attacks, gunmen also took two drivers into custody.
In a separate but related incident the same day, unidentified armed men in Lasbela district attacked the Nemi police checkpoint, taking the personnel stationed there hostage.
According to sources, the attackers seized government-issued weapons and motorcycles from the checkpoint and abducted the officer in charge, Sub-Inspector Gulab. Other police personnel held during the raid were later released.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
