
BARKHAN, BALOCHISTAN: In a major and alarming development from Barkhan district of Balochistan, unknown armed men carried out a large-scale ambush on a joint convoy of a Frontier Corps (FC) Commandant (Colonel) and Deputy Commissioner (DC), with heavy firing and multiple explosions reported at the scene.
According to sources, the targeted convoy comprised approximately eight security vehicles and nearly 20 motorcycles carrying security personnel accompanying the senior officials.
Initial reports from regional sources indicate that the armed attackers surrounded the convoy and opened indiscriminate fire using heavy and modern weapons. Several powerful explosions were also heard in the area in quick succession following the initial attack.
Sources confirmed that at the time of filing this report, an intense exchange of fire, heavy shelling and intermittent gunfire between security forces and the attackers is still ongoing at the site of the incident.
Due to the scale and intensity of the attack, serious casualties and material losses are feared, however no official or confirmed figures regarding losses have been made available so far, owing to the remote location and the ongoing firefight.
Additional security reinforcements have been immediately dispatched to the scene in order to encircle the attackers and safely extract the convoy from the area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
