Quetta: The enforced disappearance of senior urologist Dr. Rashid Ali in Quetta has triggered serious concern within the medical community of Balochistan. The Baloch Doctors Forum (BDF) has termed the incident extremely grave and has demanded his immediate and safe recovery from the authorities.
According to a press release issued by the spokesperson of the Baloch Doctors Forum, Dr. Rashid Ali was summoned through a phone call by state institutions at around 11:00 PM on December 9 in Quetta. The statement said that after reaching the designated location, Dr. Rashid Ali went missing, and reports suggest that he was transferred to an undisclosed location.
The forum noted that four days have passed, yet neither has Dr. Rashid Ali’s arrest been officially acknowledged nor has any formal information about his whereabouts been provided. This uncertainty has caused severe mental distress to his family and widespread anxiety among doctors across the province.
The Baloch Doctors Forum described Dr. Rashid Ali as a well-known, experienced, and dedicated physician who has been providing urology services to the people of Balochistan for many years. The forum emphasized that forcibly disappearing a medical professional without due legal process is a clear violation of the constitution, the rule of law, and fundamental human rights.
The forum appealed to human rights organizations, journalists, civil society and relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure the safe recovery of Dr. Rashid Ali. The statement warned that if Dr. Rashid Ali is not recovered without delay, the doctors’ community may resort to strong protest measures.
