Quetta: At least nine people, including a woman, have been forcibly disappeared by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Pakistani-backed armed group “Death Squad” from Quetta and Kech.
In the Luhar Karez area of Saryab Quetta, CTD personnel raided several homes, taking multiple people into custody and transferring them to unknown locations.
Sources say those disappeared include Bismillah Baloch, head of the Luhar Karez Public Library, which has served for many years as an educational and study center for local youth.
Among those taken into custody is Nimra Kurd, wife of Jamil Kurd. Her family stated that she was taken from her home to an unknown location and no information about her whereabouts has been received since.
Other disappeared individuals include:
- Yaqub Bangulzai, son of Mulla Mahmood Bangulzai
- Bismillah Shahwani, son of Munir Shahwani, who was also in charge of the library
- Mama Deen Muhammad, son of Khan Muhammad, aged 75, along with his eldest son Khan Muhammad (a government employee)
- Yusuf Kurd, son of Haider Kurd
- Owais Kurd, son of Haleem
- Shakoor, son of Haleem Kurd
Sources also report that six to seven additional individuals were taken into custody, whose identities have not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, in Hoshab Arz Muhammad Bazaar, Kech, Awais Baloch’s father, Hasan, son of Jan Muhammad, was forcibly disappeared by members of the government-backed armed group “Death Squad.”
Enforced disappearances have been a serious human rights concern in Balochistan for many years. Affected families state that these arrests are illegal and carried out without any judicial process.
