Nasirabad: In a tragic incident near Dera Murad Jamali in the Nasirabad, Balochistan, a man allegedly killed his wife over accusations of “immorality” (locally referred to as siyah kari), police said.
According to officials, the suspect strangled his wife, identified only as (Sh), and fled the scene immediately after committing the act. Upon receiving the report, Mongoli Police recovered the body and transferred it to a local hospital for legal formalities before handing it over to the victim’s family. A case has been registered, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the accused.
Incidents of so-called “honor killings” continue to occur sporadically in various parts of Balochistan. Rights activists highlight that many such cases are used to cover up personal disputes or domestic conflicts under the guise of honor. Often, these cases are settled through tribal customs rather than legal proceedings, undermining the due process of justice.
Social workers have repeatedly called for stronger legal mechanisms and cultural reforms to address the issue and ensure accountability in crimes committed under the pretext of honor.
