Quetta: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has accused the judiciary of using consistent delaying tactics in the legal proceedings concerning the detention of several of its key leaders.
In an official statement, the BYC spokesperson said that Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the organization’s central organizer, along with Sibghatullah Shah Jee, Bibgar Baloch, Beebow Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, and hundreds of others, have been arrested over the past two months and held under the colonial-era law, Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3 MPO). The detainees are currently imprisoned in Huda Jail, Quetta, and other jails across Balochistan.
The spokesperson stated that BYC challenged the detentions legally and filed petitions in court. However, for the past two months, the judiciary has allegedly delayed proceedings repeatedly. Despite several hearings by the same bench, government prosecutors have failed to produce any evidence against the detained leaders. Yet, the judge continues to delay issuing a verdict.
“Today, on Monday, our leaders were once again presented in court, and once again the state lawyer failed to present any evidence or argument,” the statement noted. “Logically, they should have been released honorably today. But the court once again employed delay tactics.”
According to BYC, while the court issued a general release order for those detained under the 3 MPO across Balochistan, it postponed the hearing for the cases of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Jee, Bibgar Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Beebow Baloch, and Mama Ghafar Baloch until tomorrow, giving the prosecution yet another chance to submit evidence—despite repeated failures.
The organization criticized the court’s behavior, calling it “a clear failure of the judiciary” and evidence of collusion between the judiciary and the government. “Despite the absence of any legal grounds, the court is intentionally prolonging the cases instead of ordering the release of our leaders.”
