Mama Qadeer Baloch has said that many forcibly disappeared individuals are being killed in staged encounters. He added that by imprisoning the leadership of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), fear has been instilled among the people, forcing even human rights organizations to retreat from their positions against these unconstitutional actions.
He expressed these views at the protest camp of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) outside the Quetta Press Club. VBMP demands an end to enforced disappearances and the safe recovery of missing persons.
Sunday marked the 5,811th day of the protest camp. Former BSO Chairman Maheem Khan and others visited the camp to express solidarity with the families of the disappeared.
Mama Qadeer further stated that the names of several individuals killed in staged encounters this month were already listed in their records of forcibly disappeared persons. These custodial killings are severe violations of human rights.
He also strongly condemned the filing of an FIR against prominent advocate Jalila Haider for her support of Mahrang Baloch. He stated that Jalila Haider is a strong supporter of human rights in Balochistan, and the registration of a bogus FIR against her under a controversial law sends a negative message. It has caused both disappointment and anger, highlighting how the already restricted space for freedom of expression is being further squeezed. Previously, people were dragged into courts over peaceful activities, now even dissenting views on social media are leading to illegal cases and arrests. This repression must end.
