Balochistan High Court Summons Iranian Consul General, Foreign and Tribal Affairs Ministries Over Enforced Disappearance of Ustad Wahid Kambar Baloch

Shaal: A petition has been filed in the Balochistan High Court by Mehlab Kambar Baloch against the abduction and enforced disappearance of her father, senior Baloch leader Ustad Wahid Kambar Baloch, from Iran. The court accepted the petition and issued notices to the concerned authorities.

In a video statement on X, Mehlab shared that her father was abducted from Kerman, Iran. She stated, “I have filed a petition in the High Court, which has been accepted, and notices have been issued to the concerned authorities.

“According to Mehlab, the court has summoned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the Consul General of Iran to present information at the next hearing. The case is being pursued by Advocate Shaari Kambar Baloch, another daughter of Ustad Wahid Kambar.

Ustad Wahid Kambar Baloch, a pioneering leader of the Baloch movement, was reportedly abducted by Pakistani intelligence agencies on July 19, 2024, after being taken from neighboring Iran. In a press statement, Mehlab explained that her father had previously been detained by Pakistani intelligence on March 14, 2007, and was forcibly disappeared for nine months. After extensive detention and torture, he faced fabricated terrorism charges, eventually surfacing in CID custody and undergoing trial in Pakistani courts, where he was honorably acquitted of all charges in 2011.

Despite his acquittal, Ustad Wahid continued to face harassment from state institutions due to his political views. Repeated raids on their home forced him into hiding for years. Recently, he had developed heart disease and other health issues, prompting family members to arrange his stay in western Balochistan for treatment. Later, he was moved to Kerman, Iran, where he received ongoing care. On July 19, 2024, while shopping near his residence in Kerman, four men in a white Iranian Peugeot Fars reportedly attempted to abduct him.

Ustad Wahid Kambar resisted, and nearby shopkeepers tried to intervene but were kept at bay by threats before he was ultimately taken.

His family has emphasized that Ustad Wahid Kambar has no personal enmity and is associated solely with the Baloch movement. They allege that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, with the assistance of local collaborators, are responsible for his disappearance. Given his age, medical conditions, and lack of any active cases against him, they demand his immediate release on humanitarian grounds.
