QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Burying mutilated bodies without identification is a “human tragedy”, says VBMP chairman
Nasrullah Baloch, chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), has said that burying mutilated bodies without identifying them or completing legal requirements is a human tragedy.
In a statement, Baloch said such burials add to the suffering of families of the forcibly disappeared, who are left wondering whether the body is that of their loved one.
He said it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that such bodies are not buried without full identification and legal procedure.
Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) is one of the most prominent human rights organizations documenting enforced disappearances in Balochistan. Founded by families of missing persons, the organization has been staging continuous sit-ins and protest camps for years, demanding the safe recovery of their loved ones.
The organization has recorded thousands of cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, many of which families claim were carried out by Pakistani security forces including FC and CTD personnel.
Human rights organizations both domestically and internationally have repeatedly called on Pakistani authorities to independently investigate these cases and ensure accountability.
