Karachi: Five Baloch Students Forcibly Disappeared in Overnight Raid in Karachi

Five Baloch students enrolled at the University of Karachi were forcibly disappeared after unidentified personnel raided a flat in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area at approximately 2 a.m. last night.

The students were subjected to physical torture and harassment before being forcibly taken away along with their belongings. Since their unlawful detention, no information about their whereabouts has emerged, and their current condition remains unknown.

This is not the first such incident involving University of Karachi students. Previously, MPhil student Khalil Baloch was forcibly disappeared from within the university’s premises. In a separate incident, Zubair Baloch, son of Noor Muhammad, a BS Chemistry graduate of Hub Degree College, went missing from Hub while returning home after a hearing in a Fourth Schedule case against him.

The five abducted students have been identified as Azhar Baloch, from Gwadar, a student of General History his brother Ghous Bakhsh Baloch, a BS Economics student, Shehzad Baloch, also from Gwadar, a student of Environmental Sciences Anees Baloch, from Noshki, a BS Philosophy student and Waseem Baloch, from Kalat, a BS Political Science student at the University of Karachi.

All five are regular, enrolled students who had left their hometowns to pursue higher education. Their disappearance has raised serious concern over the targeting and abduction of students within and around the university, with critics warning that such incidents jeopardize students’ educational futures and subject them to severe psychological trauma.

Calls have been made for relevant authorities to immediately halt the harassment of Baloch students, safely and immediately release those abducted and take measures to ensure the protection of Baloch students more broadly.
