QUETTA: Balochistan witnessed a sharp escalation in armed activity on Monday, as Baloch freedom fighters carried out coordinated operations across two major districts, targeting security forces in Gwadar and seizing full control of Nal city in Khuzdar district, according to local sources.
In the coastal city of Gwadar, Baloch freedom fighters attacked a police checkpoint in the Suntsar area, overpowered the personnel stationed there, and seized government weapons and an official vehicle. No casualties were immediately reported from the incident.
Local sources confirmed that the fighters surrounded the checkpoint, took the officers hostage, and seized the available arms and vehicle before withdrawing from the area.
This marks the second such incident in Gwadar within the same week. On June 4, 2026, Baloch freedom fighters detained four police personnel in the Kantani area of Gwadar. The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for that earlier attack, stating that its fighters seized a government-issued Kalashnikov rifle along with a magazine and an official vehicle from the officers. The BLF also alleged that the detained personnel had been involved in extorting money from local vehicles passing through the area.
Security officials have noted a visible increase in armed activity targeting Pakistani forces across various areas of Gwadar district in recent days.
In a simultaneously unfolding and more intense development, Baloch freedom fighters seized full control of Nal city in Khuzdar district, according to local sources. Hundreds of fighters have been holding the city for several hours, occupying key positions across multiple locations throughout the city.
Sources reported that the fighters captured both the local police station and the Levies post before setting them on fire. All roads leading in and out of Nal have been blocked, effectively cutting the city off from surrounding areas.
A gemstone factory in Nal was also reportedly set ablaze by the fighters during the operation. Local sources put the number of Baloch freedom fighters involved at approximately 100, positioned at various strategic points throughout the city.
In a significant and as yet unconfirmed development, local sources reported that a Pakistani military helicopter crashed and was destroyed at a location called Mangotal during the ongoing clashes with Baloch freedom fighters. The report has not been independently verified or officially confirmed at the time of publication.
