
KHUZDAR: Armed individuals in large numbers targeted a police checkpoint during a blockade operation in the Lakhurian area of Khuzdar, triggering a heavy exchange of fire between both sides.
According to sources, the attackers succeeded in kidnapping a police officer identified as Saeed Ahmad Memon, son of Muhammad Saqeed, a resident of Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, taking him away to an unknown location following the attack.
The abducted officer is reported to have been serving as an Inspector in the Excise Department at the time of the incident.
Following the attack, security has been significantly tightened across the area. Authorities have not yet issued any further official details regarding the incident, the condition of the kidnapped officer or the identity of those responsible for the attack.
In a separate incident in the Kundi area of Barkhan, armed individuals set fire to a Ufone telecommunications tower, causing significant damage to the installation.
According to sources, the attackers also disabled the surveillance cameras installed on the tower during the assault. Reports indicate that communications in the area have been disrupted following the incident.
No casualties have been reported in connection with the Barkhan attack at the time of publication. No armed group has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.
