Kashmore: The Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC), has expressed serious concern over the issuance of a fatwa against the organizers of a Baloch cultural event held in Kashmore, Sindh.
According to the statement, a dignified cultural program titled “Baloch Culture” was organized a few days ago in Kashmore by the Mazari Students Welfare Association. The event featured various cultural elements, including music, and concluded in a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. People from different walks of life attended the program and contributed to its success.
The statement noted that the Baloch community regularly organizes such events across Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab to promote its culture, traditions and language. Notable among these are celebrations held on Baloch Culture Day (March 2) and International Mother Language Day.
The committee emphasized that every living nation strives to preserve and promote its language and cultural heritage and the Baloch people are no exception. It described such cultural programs as essential for sustaining identity and traditions. The event in Kashmore, organized by the Mazari Students Welfare Association, was part of these ongoing efforts.
However, the committee criticized certain groups for issuing a fatwa against the organizers, calling the move regrettable and condemnable. It stated that instead of encouraging positive cultural initiatives, such actions attempt to portray them negatively.
The statement further added that attachment to one’s culture and language is a natural sentiment and a source of pride for any nation. Issuing what it termed an “unfounded fatwa” against an educational and cultural program is beyond understanding.
The Baloch Students Action Committee has called on the government to take notice of the matter and hold those responsible accountable. It warned that such actions could lead to social unrest and accused certain elements of misusing religion for their own purposes, stressing that such practices have no place in religious teachings.
