Gwadar: Revelations of large-scale irregularities and alleged corruption in relief activities following the February 2024 floods across Gwadar district have raised serious concerns over the performance of the district administration.
Allegations of alterations in beneficiary lists, exclusion of genuine victims, and inclusion of unrelated individuals have sparked widespread public concern.
According to sources, several flood-affected families have complained that their names are missing from official lists, while relatives of influential individuals and favored persons have been included and issued financial assistance checks.
Affected individuals stated that they have repeatedly approached the relevant authorities with their complaints, but their grievances have largely gone unheard. Local social circles and citizens have described the situation as “mega corruption,” stating that such injustice towards victims of a natural disaster is not only unfortunate but also condemnable.
They maintain that ensuring transparent distribution of relief funds is a fundamental responsibility of the district administration, which, according to them, is being clearly neglected. Meanwhile, some local representatives have alleged that merit was ignored in the preparation of lists, with favoritism and nepotism allegedly prevailing, leaving genuine beneficiaries deprived of assistance.
They warned that if the matter is not addressed promptly, public trust in government institutions may be further eroded. Public and social circles have urged the district administration to review the beneficiary lists, conduct a transparent inquiry to identify those responsible, and take strict legal action against corrupt elements. They also demanded that relief checks be provided only to verified and genuine victims to ensure justice.
So far, the district administration has not issued an official statement regarding these allegations; however, amid increasing public pressure, it is expected that an investigation into the matter may be initiated soon.
