Quetta: Three Months On, Student Mahjabeen Baloch and Brother Still Missing, Amnesty Condemns Grave Human Rights Violation

A young student, Mahjabeen Baloch, who was subjected to enforced disappearance three months ago from Quetta, remains missing. Her family alleges that she was taken into custody by Pakistani forces and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in May, but no information has been provided about her whereabouts or condition since then.

According to the family, 23-year-old Mahjabeen Baloch was arrested without any legal warrant on the night of May 29, 2025, around 3 a.m. from the nursing hostel of Quetta Civil Hospital. She was a Library Science student at the University of Balochistan and required special care due to polio. Just five days before her arrest, her brother, Younus Baloch, was also forcibly disappeared from their home.

International human rights organization Amnesty International has expressed grave concern over the disappearance of Mahjabeen and Younus Baloch. The organization has urged Pakistani authorities to ensure their immediate recovery and to put an end to the practice of enforced disappearances.

Amnesty noted that the family has not been provided with any explanation from official institutions regarding their arrest or current location, leaving them in a state of deep anguish and uncertainty.

The issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan has long been a source of serious concern for human rights organizations and the local population.
